IBM WebSphere facilitates the deployment and management of Web applications ranging from simple web sites to high-transaction, high-volume e-business solutions. Open standards-based technology, such as CORBA, EJB (Enterprise Java Beans), Java servlets, JavaServer Pages (JSP) and XML, can be used to quickly transform static web sites into vital sources of dynamic Web content with business logic. WebSphere offers high speed database access using JDBC for DB2 and Oracle.

When Lotus Notes / Domino is used in conjunction with WebSphere, they can draw on the strengths of each other. Domino can invoke WebSphere servlets which can then access DB2 or Oracle databases. WebSphere can access Domino as a data store or Domino's replication, automation and presentation capabilities.
