Facing History and Ourselves

Synaptic developed a web-based distance learning system for Facing History and Ourselves for their instructor-led workshops.  Up until now, Facing History and Ourselves has presented these workshops in a classroom, face-to-face setting all over the U.S., as well as internationally.  To extend their reach and impact, it was a logical move to use web technology to present these workshops, allowing them to reach more people.  The Online Workshop is a self-service application that consists of a general template containing the workshop instructional materials, resources, and discussion areas.  Facing History instructors use the template as the starting point for their workshop, selecting existing chapters and lessons, adding their own custom materials and writings, inviting attendees and providing them login information.

the Volpe Center

CSC Home Page

Computer Sciences Corporation and the Volpe National Transportation Center choose Synaptic to provide application development expertise for a new project for the Federal Aviation Administration.  Using the strengths of IBM/Lotus Domino, Java, and XML this web-based system will provide federal aviation inspectors with a portable repository of reference and regulatory documentation that is tailored to deliver the exact information needed for each of the different FAA inspector job roles.  With the vast volumes of government regulations contained in a multitude of document sources, web sites, and databases, this application mines the content so that it can be accessed immediately and efficiently by inspectors.

Cramer

Cramer Productions is a marketing communications company which produces events/trade shows, direct marketing, interactive media, video, and print. They have a long list of high-profile clients, like Microsoft, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Lotus, Fleet, Fidelity, Compaq, and Motorola. This year they relied on Synaptic Communications to build the Cramer Tracker extranet; this system facilitates communications with clients by allowing Cramer's project team members to post materials and documents related to a particular project and have their customers use a web browser to securely access it all.

A key requirement was that Cramer's people would need to be able to set up a new Tracker as new projects are launched. Synaptic devised a simple web-based system where employees can create new Trackers that are customized for each of their clients. Cramer's project teams can then upload project documents, schedules, a dynamic list of project team members, plus project deliverables in all types of media formats (video, PDFs, sound files, graphics,...). When graphic files are uploaded to the system it automatically creates miniature thumbnail images to display in listings. The Cramer Tracker system is integrated with multiple databases and enabled to launch automatic email notifications.

Amtrol

In addition to its Internet website, Amtrol Inc., the nation's leading manufacturer of hot-water heaters, also asked Synaptic to develop a set of secure extranet applications for use by its business partners and administrators.

Distributors and sales representatives log in to view extended product information and download manuals and marketing materials. Sales representatives browse their personal sales reports online.

Members of Amtrol's purchase incentive program log in to view their points balance, browse the merchandise catalog, and redeem their points for merchandise, all online. As they do so, the website notifies program administrators by email. Administrators are therefore able to take a "hands-off" approach - when something needs to be done, the system alerts them. When they need to, they log in to the admin website to perform a diverse array of administrative tasks, from the input and editing of members to the export of up-to-the-minute reports.

Web Awards 2000 by Web Marketing Association (WMA) MIMC Awards 2000 Finalist

Britemoon.com has chosen Synaptic to assist in developing their flagship product. Synaptic is developing Britemoon using Lotus Domino R5, Java, XML and other technologies.

Britemoon was named Best Email Web Site of 2000 by the Web Marketing Association (WMA) and was a Finalist in MIMC Awards 2000.

Sonesta International Hotels

The Sonesta International Hotels public web site is supported by an extranet application that allows each hotel manager in the Sonesta family to update, support, and process all the activity associated with their property.  This allows each property manager the freedom to post last-minute travel specials, area activities and happenings, and special offers.  Direct e-mail to customers alerts them to specials at the destinations they are most interested in visiting.  The travel preferences of frequent customers are stored in the database, so that repeat reservations are always handled with the unique Sonesta care and attention.

IBM IBM Enterprise '98 was developed in order to improve customer relations between IBM and its major clients.  This extranet application allows IBM to create secure, tailored web sites for their large customers such as Intel and Citibank.  These sites provide the company access to pertinent news stories, current promotions and price lists, marketing messages, as well as a list of IBM client representatives who are associated with each company.  This Lotus Notes/Domino application easily creates new sites based on options chosen by IBM.  It also allows IBM to quickly update the sites as soon as new content becomes available.  The application also includes a unique management interface, called ESMI (Enterprise Sites Management Interface), to keep track of internal changes as well as feedback from web users.
